We are pleased to announce that normal unencrypted video files will be available around July 2012. You will get the downloads in .mp4 (H.264) format in your Documents folder. Files will need to stay in that location in order to work with the application, but you may then copy or watch them with your preferred video player.
Player/Application FAQ
You can find a lot of info within the help section of the application itself. Most FAQ's are answered there. We posted a few here for your reference.
What is the video resolution of the videos?
It depends on the video; you will get the exact resolution encoded on the original DVD. The most common resolutions are: 720x400 (NTSC Widescreen), 640x480 (NTSC Standard), 720x544 (PAL Widescreen)
Can I watch downloaded programs on my TV?
Absolutely! There are 3 ways to watch Wing Chun videos on your TV:
- Easiest way is to copy or burn the video files to a flash drive or DVD and play them on a compatible DVD player or etc. (Unencrypted Files Only - check after July 2012)
- If your TV accepts HDMI, DVI, VGA or S-video input, and your computer has the matching output, just connect the two!
- It’s usually easiest if you have a laptop, since a desktop computer might not be located close to your TV set. Just connect the output of your laptop to the input of your TV. If you are using HDMI, sound is carried as well, so it is easy. A DVI to HDMI cable can be picked up for around $15-20 at most electronic stores.
- If you are not using HDMI, you may want to plug a cable with a mini 1/8″ stereo plug into the headphone output of your computer, and the stereo RCA plugs on the other end into aux inputs on your receiver or TV.
- Here is a wonderful guide on connecting your computer to your TV: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/how-to-tech/how-to-connect-computer-to-tv.htm
- You can also play it wirelessly from your iOS device through AirPlay. To read more about this feature, look for the "Can I play my movies from my iOS device to my TV" topic from withing the help section inside the application.
Can I transfer videos I have purchased to my iOS Device (iPod/iPhone/iPhone)?
Our application is only for the PC or MAC, but you can transfer the videos to iOS devices (and soon for Android). If you know how, just copy the video files from the download folder (usually your Documents folder) to your device - that is the easiest way! (Only Available on Unencrypted Files after July 2012 or so. Please check with us).
Or you can do it within the application itself. Here is how:
- Download the ModMobile application from the App Store. This is a 3rd party app that costs $1.99. Download it here
- On your iOS device: Launch the app and tap "COPY". Note the IP.
- On your computer: Launch the EWCIA application, goto the "Options" Menu and select "Copy Media to iOS Device".
- Follow the instructions on that page: You just enter in the IP address showing on your iOS device, select the videos to copy, and start the transfer.
- Go to "Watch" on it ModMobile App and pick the DVD to watch!
What format are the downloaded files in? (.avi, .mp4, .mov or etc?)
Files are encoded in .mp4 format (H.264) and renamed as .mov files.
You might find that some files are encrypted and cannot be copied/played outside of our player. We are working to change this and hope that by July 2012 all files will be available as normal unencrypted movies.
The hardest thing about bringing great teaching to you via an online/download method is the fact that many Sifus/Teachers will not participate due to the fear of piracy. Unencrypted .avi files and the like can show up on torrent sites and newsgroups very quickly making it impossible to offer the Sifus the security they want in order to produce great material for you. To that end we have to use platforms for delivery that are not able to be easily pirated. We also monitor torrent sites for such files and if found we might be forced to restrict access once again. Please to not pirate Wing Chun DVDs.
If the downloaded files are encrypted movie files our application and player decrypt these files as you play them. The player also links your email and info to the downloads. If they are unencrypted they will play directly from your computer with whatever video player you prefer.
Please note: If you take an unencrypted movie file from the download folder (usually your Documents folder) and move it you will no longer be able to play it within the application. It must stay in the place it was downloaded to in order to play within the app.
How many computers can I play the downloads on?
Right now you can play the videos on 2 computers (A desktop and laptop for example); plus 2 iOS devices (iPhone/iPod/iPad).
If a computer breaks down you can be authorized on a new machine, but we have to de-authorize your older machine first. This works similar to the way iTunes works. It is another anti-piracy measure.
How can I watch my programs on a different computer?
- Download and install our application onto your other computer the same way you did before.
- Launch the Everything Wing Chun Wing Chun Instant Access app.
- Click the “options” button in the upper right and choose “authorize this computer”
- Type in the same email address you used to purchase your courses, then click OK.
After a short pause, the products you have purchased will show up under “My Video Lessons” and you’ll be able to download them at your convenience.
Am I able to burn videos I've purchased to a DVD?
For encrypted files, the answer is no. For unencrypted files, you can take the .mov or .mp4 files and burn them to a DVD with any number of 3rd party software packages. (Check back after July 2012 for Unencrypted files).
What if my hard drive crashes or I buy a new computer?
Just follow the directions under “Can I watch my programs on a different computer?” above.
Can I save my videos to an external hard drive? How do I change the download folder?
To copy unencrypted files, just copy them like you would anything else. (Check back after July 2012 for Unencrypted files). To change the download folder or location of encrypted files:
- Open the Everything Wing Chun Instant Access player, go to the "Options" menu (upper right hand corner) and choose "Choose preferred media storage folder".
- Make sure you read and understand the message about hard drive speed!
- Choose the new folder where you want your videos to be saved, and click "Choose".
- You videos will now be located in the new location!
I want to delete the videos I have purchase from my computer. How?
To delete a purchased video, Alt-Click (Mac Users: Option-Click) on the title under "My Video Lessons". You will be asked you you want to delete the file. Click "Yes" to delete. You will be able to re-download the deleted movie at any time.
Can I enjoy my downloaded programs even if I’m not connected to the internet?
Yes! When you purchase a product, just make sure the entire product downloads. Then, you can take your laptop to a cabin in the woods, the beach or on an ocean voyage and watch any program you wish.
How long does it take to download a course?
It depends on the length of the course and the speed of your internet connection. Courses range from a few hundred MB to a couple GB.
Can I return a download for a refund?
Unfortunately, no. Once you purchase and download the video it is yours. It is the same policy that does not allow you to return opened DVD to places like Amazon and Walmart - it stops people from watching videos for free. Our agreements with the Sifus do not allow for refunds of watched materials (and a video is considered watched if it is downloaded). We are working on a rental system for DVDs for people that just want to watch a video once and not keep it.
Can I slow down or loop a section of video so I can better learn what's going on?
Yes! Our new media player engine has the ability to slow down video without changing the pitch! This ability, along with the ability to loop a section of video, will enable you to go over sections of any lesson and practice along at your own pace until you have it down pat. The new player also has the best playback performance of any player we’ve ever seen and will play perfectly smooth fullscreen video on many computers that have trouble playing other video (such as Netflix or iTunes).
To learn how to use these new features, and to review the easy keyboard shortcuts, visit the Help Center (Question Mark button near the top right of the catalog screen). Here is a quick keyboard shortcut guide for the new BrainPlayer:

For schools I suggest you look on our other site (http://ewingchun.com/schools-list) and find someone willing to let you train with them.
